What to Expect

Your session is one-on-one and tailored to your specific pain and movement limitations. Each visit includes:

1. Evaluation & Assessment

Dr. Jaasko performs a detailed evaluation to identify your symptoms, medical history, and movement limitations. Using orthopedic and neurologic testing, he locates involved muscles, trigger points, and any nerve involvement to determine if dry needling is right for you.

2. Needling & Stimulation

Fine, sterile needles target specific trigger points and taut muscle bands. You may feel a brief twitch or deep ache as the muscle releases. When appropriate, electrical stimulation enhances pain relief, calms irritated nerves, and improves muscle activation.

3. Post-Treatment Guidance

After treatment, you’ll receive targeted movement and strengthening exercises, plus guidance on activity modification and self-care. Your personalized plan is designed around your home environment and daily demands.

Is Dry Needling Right for You?- FAQ

Many people are curious about dry needling but unsure what to expect. Here are answers to some common questions.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most people describe dry needling as very tolerable. You may feel a brief “twitch” response or a deep, achy sensation in the muscle- called de-qi. Mild soreness for 24–48 hours afterward is common and often feels similar to a delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) from a deep tissue massage or a challenging workout.

Is dry needling safe?

Yes. Dry needling is considered a safe and evidence-supported technique when performed by a properly trained clinician. Dr. Nils-Otto Jaasko is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, and certified in dry needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. He uses sterile, single-use needles and follows proper screening practices and strict hygiene and safety protocols in your home.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your condition, how long you have had symptoms, and your overall activity level. Many people notice meaningful change within 2–6 sessions, especially when dry needling is paired with targeted exercise, manipulative therapy, and movement retraining. During your initital evaluation, Dr. Jaasko will outline a clear plan so you know what to expect.
